Ingredients
  

For the Sweet Potato Base
1 can of cut sweet potatoes (40 oz), with the liquid included
¾ cup white sugar (adjust depending on how sweet you like it)
⅓ cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
⅓ cup milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Pecan Topping
1 cup chopped pecans
¾ cup brown sugar, packed (you can reduce or increase if needed)
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted

Method
 

Step 1: Get the Oven Ready
    Start by setting your oven to 350°F (175°C).
      Grease a medium baking dish with a little butter so the casserole doesn’t stick later.
        Step 2: Warm the Sweet Potatoes
          Empty the can of sweet potatoes, along with its liquid, into a pot.
            Place it on medium heat just long enough for the potatoes to heat through.
              Step 3: Drain and Mash Well
                Once warm, pour out the liquid.
                  Move the potatoes into a mixing bowl and mash them until soft, leaving a few tiny pieces for a more natural texture.
                    Step 4: Build the Sweet Potato Mixture
                      Add in the sugar, butter pieces, milk, eggs, and vanilla.
                        Mix gently until everything blends into a smooth and creamy mixture.
                          Step 5: Spread It in the Baking Dish
                            Pour the sweet potato mixture into your prepared dish and spread it out evenly with a spoon or spatula.
                              Step 6: Prepare the Crunchy Topping
                                In another bowl, combine the pecans with the brown sugar and flour.
                                  Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir just until everything is coated and forms soft crumbs.
                                    Step 7: Add the Topping Layer
                                      Scatter the pecan mixture over the sweet potato base, covering the surface evenly.
                                        Step 8: Bake Until Golden
                                          Place the dish in the oven and bake for around 35 minutes, or until the top has a light golden color and the inside is nicely heated.
